Meet the Instructors

Sue Carr is a wire work instructor and artist, who lives and creates in South Jersey.  She has been teaching locally in various bead shops for four years, and has her work in several area speciality shops. Although Sue enjoys participating in the many art venues that present themselves, teaching seems to be uniquely satisfying to her.  She offers both group and private lessons.

Renee Devine is a Bead Garden “staffer”.  She is also one of the craftiest people we know.  She beads, she stamps and boy does she sew!  She also happens to be an excellent teacher.

Susan Koye is a local juried artisan who enjoys learning, jewelry design, lampingworking, silversmithing, a juried dollmaker, sewing, boating and aircraft. A former naval commander, Susan was one of the first woman to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and also University of Pennsylvania. She formerly worked in management for McNeil Pharmaceutical. She recently founded the Main Line Bead Society.

Rania “Rai” Nelson has been working with polymer clay for more than 10 years. Rai began her training at Temple University and has participated in master classes with well-known artists such as City Zen Kane and Victoria Hughes. She has a level two certification in PMC. She has taught for the Mt. Airy Learning Tree, Create An Impression and the Main Line Arts Center. Rai is a member of the National Polymer Clay Guild and the National Polymer Clay Guild.

Jeri Schatz began making jewelry in 1976, studying under Robert Kulicke (Jewelry Arts Institute), and learning classical jewelry design using gold and fine silver.  She furthered her metals background learning modern metals techniques from teaching greats Robert Ebendorf, Pat Flynn, Thomas Gentile, and Stephen Allendorf.  In 1999 Jeri was bit by the bead bug and has been weaving ever since!  She now teaches at many Philadelphia area bead stores as well as FIT in New York.  Take a class with Jeri and you will see why she is loved by so many students.

Connie Sheerin, author of ‘Mosaics in an Afternoon’ and noted "TV Crafter", will be conducting a mosaic frame class at The Bead Garden and Polymer Clay Jewelry classes.  Currently Connie is Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia Arts and Crafts Expert. You may also recognize her from HGTV, Rosie O’Donnell and Home Design.

Bead Garden Staff:  The Bead Garden employs a number of experienced beaders who teach workshops and work in the store.  Please feel free to ask them for help or advice during store hours as well.
